Student Event and Information
2025 Music Evaluation Day
In this event, students are tested in several areas of musicianship including Theory, Technique and Ear Training, Sight-reading and Memorized Performance Playing. This is not a competition, but an opportunity for student evaluation. A booklet is available to help prepare the students for this event. Registration fee is $20.00 per student. Send registration forms and one check made out to Middle West District OhioMTA to Karen Heath, 471 Hickory St., St. Henry, OH 45883 postmarked no later than February 18, 2025. The date for Music Evaluation Day is March 29, 2025. Location is Lima Baptist Temple.

2024 Ribbon Festival
The Ribbon Festival provides the opportunity for a positive performance experience for students of any age or skill level. Each registered student performs one piece (preferably memorized) in a one-hour time block recital setting. A qualified adjudicator provides positive written remarks and constructive feedback on a comment sheet. At the conclusion of each recital hour, each student receives a certificate, ribbon and comment sheet. Ribbon Festival will take place on Saturday November 23, 2024. Send Teacher Information Form and Student Entry Forms with one check (made out to Middle West District OhioMTA) to Paula Deardurff, 537 Hillcrest Dr., Bellefontaine, OH 43311, postmarked no later than October 26, 2024. Location is Shawnee Alliance Church.

Duettists Competition
The Duettists Competition is a tremendous growth experience and gives students the opportunity to realize some of their music and performance goals while having fun together. Two pieces are required: one Traditional and one Creative. See the registration form for levels and more details about requirements. Registration fee is $20.00 per student. Send entry form and one check made out to Middle West OhioMTA to Shirley McPherson, 6465 Road 91, Lewistown 43333. Entry forms must be postmarked no later than September 28, 2024. The Duettist Competition will take place October 26, 2024 at Ohio Northern University.
Buckeye Auditions
Each OhioMTA District holds auditions in the spring. Teachers send their students to be judged in Elementary, Junior and Senior levels. A winner is chosen at each level & these winners then compete at the state level. All registrations for each student must be done through the OhioMTA website by March 1, 2025. One fee is paid that includes both the district and, if they qualify, the state competition. Middle West District Auditions will be held at Bowling Green State University on March 9, 2025. The fees are listed on the registration form. Payment can be made via credit card or PayPal.
District Scholarship
The Middle West District Scholarship is open to students of member teachers who are graduating from high school and declare a music major. The scholarship requirements are: Student must participate in at least one district event during their senior year; Member teacher must attend at least one district meeting in the last school year; Student’s choice of applied instrument in college must be the same as the instrument of the member teacher.
